"! NEW DATE ! Friday, November 20, 2026." That's how the New Castle-Henry County Chamber of Commerce announced this year's Chamber Christmas Walk, exclamation points and all. Last year the walk was on Thursday, December 4. The New Castle-Henry County Renaissance Festival moved even further. It used to be held at the end of July, and this year it's on Saturday, November 7.
The two moves put two of downtown's headline free events at the same plaza, 13 days apart, in a month that used to be the gap between trick-or-treat and the December rush. If you still have the old dates in your head, here's what the new ones look like.
Where the Two Events Used to Fall
The Renaissance Festival has been a summer event. The Courier-Times reported that the 2024 festival was on Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 2025 festival followed the same pattern on July 26, with the same hours. Henry County's tourism site, Hoops in Henry, listed it with the Art Association of Henry County at 218 S. 15th St. as the venue.
The Christmas Walk has been an early-December weeknight. Here's how the two events compare year over year:
| Event | 2025 | 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| New Castle-Henry County Renaissance Festival | Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. | Saturday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Chamber Christmas Walk | Thursday, Dec. 4, 5:30 to 8 p.m. | Friday, Nov. 20, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. |
The Christmas Walk changed in three ways. It moved two weeks earlier, from a Thursday to a Friday, and its hours run half an hour later than last year. Thanksgiving falls on November 26 this year, so the walk is now the Friday before the holiday, not the first week of December.
Neither organizer has published a reason for its new date. The schedule is simply what's posted.
November 7 at 1400 Plaza and the Arts Park
According to its official site, the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1400 Plaza and the Arts Park. It's free, and it's organized in partnership with the Art Association of Henry County and the City of New Castle. Vendor applications for 2026 are closed. The festival's timed schedule page says "coming soon."
The festival site lists these entertainers:
- Knotty Bits Pirate Show
- Drunk & Sailor
- Red Rum Band
- Falconry Show from Take Flight! Education
- Lily the Unicorn
- Reginald Harte, Sheriff at Billerakay
- Gisido LARP
- Punch & Judy
- Droopel the Barbarian
- The Shady Ladies
- The Marvelously Terrible Shakespeare Company
- The Druid Drummer
- Toadstool Shadow
Last summer's festival had the theme "Heroes and Villains." Its listing promised aerial acrobatics, falconry shows, maypole dancing, archery, a unicorn and petting zoo, LARPing, live music, Shakespeare skits, food trucks and art vendors. That was the July version. Check the schedule page in the days before the festival to see the November lineup and times.
November 20, Same Plaza, After Dark
Thirteen days later, 1400 Plaza becomes the entertainment hub for the Christmas Walk, with stage slots from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. on the Chamber's posted schedule. Citizens State Bank presents the walk. The Chamber calls it "the biggest event of the year" and says thousands of people filled downtown last year.
Downtown businesses and street vendors are open the full 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. window. The Chamber's list also includes Santa, reindeer, costumed characters such as the Grinch, Frosty and skating elves, caroling, photo spots, and two bounce houses, one for little kids and one for older kids.
Three details are worth knowing before you go:
- Park at Ace and ride. A free shuttle runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. between the east end of Ace Hardware at 441 S. Memorial Dr. and Main Street near the Citizens State Bank drive-thru, courtesy of NC Transit and Ace Hardware. The Chamber posts a road closure and parking map that shows closed streets in red and public lots in blue.
- Bring cash for the wagon. Hagemeyer Homestead of Englewood, Ohio, provides this year's horse-drawn wagon rides. They cost $5 per adult, and kids 12 and under ride free with a paying adult. Rides are cash only.
- Keep any Frosty you find. Small Frosty figures are hidden around the walk. At 7:30 p.m., numbers are drawn from a barrel at Broad and Main Streets, and matching numbers win gift cards. If you can't stay for the drawing, the Chamber posts winners on its Facebook page, @nchcchamber, and winners have two weeks to claim prizes by calling 765-529-5210.
The Library Fills the Days In Between
The two weeks between the festival and the walk aren't empty. The New Castle-Henry County Public Library has two programs in the Main Branch Auditorium. The Our Heroes' Tree Veterans Day program is Monday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the Local Author Fair is Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Thanksgiving week schedule continues with "Challenge Accepted!! Thanksgiving & Fall" for kids on Nov. 23 from 4 to 5 p.m., and the Dragon City Book Club on Nov. 24 from 6 to 7 p.m.
Here's the full stretch in date order:
- Sat., Nov. 7: Renaissance Festival, 1400 Plaza and the Arts Park, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Mon., Nov. 9: Our Heroes' Tree Veterans Day program, Main Branch Auditorium, 6 to 8 p.m.
- Sat., Nov. 14: Local Author Fair, Main Branch Auditorium, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Fri., Nov. 20: Chamber Christmas Walk, downtown, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Mon., Nov. 23: "Challenge Accepted!! Thanksgiving & Fall," Main Branch Children's Activity Area, 4 to 5 p.m.
- Tue., Nov. 24: Dragon City Book Club, Main Branch Programming Room, 6 to 7 p.m.
What December Looks Like Now
With the Christmas Walk moved into November, early December no longer has its big downtown night. Most of the December events left on the calendar are at the Castle Theatre. New Castle Main Street's Main Street Movies page lists four holiday films:
| Date | Film |
|---|---|
| Friday, Dec. 11 | A Christmas Story |
| Friday, Dec. 18 | Scrooged |
| Saturday, Dec. 19 | Elf |
| Sunday, Dec. 20 | How The Grinch Stole Christmas |
As of mid-October, showtimes were still TBD and tickets were marked "coming soon." Main Street also has a separate "Christmas at the Castle" listing for December 5, 11 and 19, with no details posted yet. Two of those dates overlap with the movie nights, and one doesn't, so watch both pages as the month gets closer.
If you plan to meet friends downtown on Nov. 20, the shuttle from Ace Hardware runs until 8:30 p.m. and the Frosty drawing is at 7:30. If you have questions about your own street, your home or the market around it, The Slavin Property Group is happy to talk anytime, and you can request a free home valuation while you're thinking about the year ahead.
